ABHOY MISSION, a non-profit making, accountable, credible & transparent voluntary organization, started its journey in the year 1988, having objective of multi-dimensional service to disadvantaged group of people especially destitute senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Benevolent service is rendered to provide care and protection, education & rehabilitation to children with special needs, tension free comfortable life to senior citizens, vocational training to youth with disabilities and Manpower development. As a pioneer organization, it also provides rehabilitation service to treated and controlled mentally ill female.
At the onset of last decades of last century, the organization established the first school for children with intellectual disabilities in Tripura State. Around similar point in time, it started a Home for destitute elderly people. For facilitation of education of children with intellectual disabilities, the institution worked in diversified ways. Service towards attaining better functional efficacy by persons with special needs and senior citizens is another endeavor of the organization. It also put effort for running skill development programs involving youth with disabilities. It provided training to senior citizens, so that they can lead a contributory role from financial point of view. It is the pioneer organization in Tripura that started different RCI approved manpower development programs including B.Ed. & PGPD in special education. The organization also organized training in Geriatric care under NISD, Govt.of India. Due to its relentless efforts & service towards persons with disabilities, the National Trust conferred responsibility of State Nodal Agency Centre to this organization. The National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities started its Extension Centre in this organization in 2015.
As recognition of outstanding service, the organization received “Best SAMARTH Project” Award for the year 2006-07 from National Trust. As an acknowledgement of noteworthy contribution towards persons with disabilities, the organization received ‘Manovikas Purashkar, 2014”. In 2018, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Govt. of India, conferred Award as Best Institution for providing Holistic & Comprehensive service towards persons with disabilities. In 2019, the special needs children of Abhoy Mission performed dance in “Divya Kala Sngam: A Cultural Event” before Hon’ble president of India in Rastrapati Bhavan and Parliament House.
